1. This Excel spreadsheet CALCULATES the value of U. S. Series EE Savings Bonds, bought in the past and future. (Series EE bonds were sold since 1/1/80.) This program will be accurate for DECADES if the user adds readily available, future market-based rates semi-annually.
The interest from U. S. Series EE Savings Bonds bought after 1989 can be totally tax-free if used for college tuition and fees. This may be the best way for risk-adverse investors to save for college. EE bonds' market-based rates protect your investment from inflation.
Enter the dates and total face values of bonds bought after 1979 and those to be bought in the future. The spreadsheet will accurately calculate the current value of bonds already purchased. It will also estimate the value of all the bonds years from now, including those bought in the future. The latter helps you determine if your saving rate is satisfactory.
The spreadsheet also calculates yield-to-date, average market-based rates, and the return you would need to equal the EE Bonds' performance from a fully taxable investment.

2. You MUST have MS Excel (spreadsheet) V4.0 or later to use this program. Some may need to open the EECOLL22.XLS file from within the Excel application.
